I’m so grateful to say that myself, the team, and all our luggage (minus a guitar which is on its way) made it safely to Chiang Mai, Thailand! In case you’re wondering what a 3 flight, 23 total hours in the air day feels like, here’s a peek into my flight from California to Taiwan, our second and longest flight of the journey:
1:39am PDT There’s a child screaming. The lights just dimmed. Noah Kahan is in my ears. The lights are crisp outside the window but my tired eyes add a slight fuzz to them. The child is still screaming. I’m scared, excited, apprehensive, and I cannot believe this is real. I’m in the middle seat which is my least favorite but I have Benadryl waiting for me. I think we’re about to round the corner. I’m fighting to keep tears away. Yup. It’s 1:46 plane accelerating. And we’re off.
2:54am Finished up dinner. There was pork with rice which wasn’t bad!
3:00am I took Benadryl.
3:13am Brushed my teeth
7:00am I’m awake again. I thought a good chunk of the flight had passed, but we have a solid 7 hours ahead of us. It’s pitch black outside the window- there’s nothing except the horizon somewhere. It’s eerie.
11:02am Three hours remaining! The whole team’s up- we stretched our legs and stood for a bit and the flight attendants gave us some little snacks.
11:37am Japan sighting!
1:02pm We haven’t seen the sun in 17 hours.
1:57pm (4:57am in Taiwan) We can see the red hues of the sun rising. 25 minutes until we land in Taiwan.
Adjusting to a different time zone, culture, native language, and foods has been challenging, but a beautiful opportunity to seek the Lord and rely on his strength in all things. Some of our recent activities in Thailand include: visiting schools that we’ll be working in, driving and walking through the city, visiting a Buddhist temple up the mountain, and trying lots of new foods! Yesterday during our trip up the mountain to see the temple, God provided 2 encounters with other Christians that blew us away in his intentionality and faithfulness. We met a missions group from Florida as well as a missionary who goes frequently to the temple to pray. I cannot wait to explain the details of how God’s been moving and blessing us as a team! For now, please keep us in your prayers as we adjust to living here :)
Please be praying for:
Restoration to businesses and families from serious flooding here in Chiang Mai
Team health and wellness
Continued opportunities to have conversations and meet people
The Holy Spirit to be moving in and through us
Great explanation of your flight!! I could literally envision what you shared! 😆 Stay encouraged in Him! Continued prayers for you and your team! 🙏🏽😇. Thanks for sharing your journey! ❤️
